Radnor ABC Statement on Equity and Racism

People of color have diminished opportunities in our society because of systemic inequities: inadequate healthcare, substandard educational resources, and a justice system that is disproportionately used against them to name a few. Since 1972, Radnor, A Better Chance (ABC) has sought to address the substandard educational resources that so many teens of color face by providing them an outstanding educational opportunity.  Radnor ABC Scholars and Staff Group Picture

Radnor ABC makes a deep and long-lasting impact on the lives of young people of color, giving them a chance to attend Radnor High School and to be nurtured by our community, building networks, and getting an education that will serve them well for the rest of their lives. The opportunity to be a Radnor ABC scholar not only gives each participant a chance for a more promising future, but it impacts their families (siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, even parents), their future, and the future of their children.

And the impact doesn’t stop there.  In addition to all of the opportunities afforded to Radnor ABC scholars, they in turn have a profound impact on the Radnor community.  They share a rich diversity of perspectives and experiences with their classmates and educators at Radnor High School as well as many other members of our community whom they touch during their four-year journey here.

We know that our scholars have the potential to become a force for positive change in the years to come. We know that with their leadership, our world will be a better place for all.  It is an honor and a privilege to work with our scholars, molding them, being molded by them, and together forging a future that is bright. That’s why we’ve done this work for the past 49 years and will continue to do it until the need is gone.
