After School House Monitor and Driver Job Description

A Better Chance — Radnor, PA

The Radnor A Better Chance Program (Radnor ABC) is one of the 20 Community Schools Programs (CSPs) within the National A Better Chance organization. Our goal is to develop leaders of tomorrow by providing students of color, who show strong academic and leadership potential and who seek a better educational opportunity, with a home away from home while attending Radnor High School (RHS), a top-rated public high school in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Radnor ABC is a co-educational program with ten scholars. Under the nurturing care and mentoring of a Resident Director(s) and three Resident Tutors, our scholars live at the Radnor ABC House during the academic school year.

Our scholars are returning to school 5 days a week this fall. A House Monitor is needed after school hours to be an adult presence in the House and to provide transportation to / from their various activities.

Duties Include:

1 – Be a positive presence while supervising our scholars.  Supervision includes—but is not limited to—providing a physical and accessible adult presence in the house, monitoring the whereabouts of the students at all times in person and via texting and phone calls, enforcing all rules associated with appropriate house behavior including COVID restrictions and rules.

2 – Communicate with Resident Directors – Communication includes – any questions that you have, recognition of student success and what is working well as well as any scholars that need extra care, attention or issues that need to be addressed.

3 – Work with us as we navigate the possibility of continuous change in schedules related to the potential of in-person/hybrid/all-remote schooling for our scholars. This may change and thereby shift our needs. Flexibility is key to the success of this role.

4 – Follow all House rules and restrictions including those related to coronavirus safety.

5 – Provide rides for scholars as needed

Our 10 scholars participate in a wide variety of activities after school for which they will need rides mostly to RHS but may be other locations in and around Radnor.  There may be days when no rides are needed and other days when multiple rides are needed.  Again, flexibility is key.

6 – Engage with the scholars – While there may be “down-time” with this role, the expectation is that the House Monitor will engage with the scholars rather than just sit in the House.

Experience Desired: Supervising, coaching, mentoring and/or parenting adolescents are very important skills for this role, as well as the sincere desire to positively engage young people and to support their healthy development and to nurture them.

Must Have:  Car, car insurance, clearances and mandated reporter training and a clean driving record.

Schedule: Monday – Friday (3:00pm – 6pm) for the remainder of the academic school year, minus school breaks and holidays.

Pay:  $15/hour

Reports To:  Resident Director

Start Date:  Wednesday, September 8, 2021
